Limited Time to View Powerful Woven Works in Diedrick Brackens: ark of bulrushes.

The exhibition Diedrick Brackens: ark of bulrushes, which features large-scale weavings and woven sculptures by emerging fiber artist Diedrick Brackens is nearing the end of its showing at SMoCA. This important and profound work will be on display through Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021. With their striking imagery and unique style, Brackens’ vibrant handwoven works, influenced by poetry, folklore, African American history, queer experience, cosmology, and mythology are truly a must-see.

As a companion to the exhibition, take home our small five-page booklet and a postcard set featuring images from the exhibition and an essay by Lauren O’Connell, curator of contemporary art.

Consider going in depth with a copy of the Gulf Coast Winter/Spring 2021 Journal (Volume 33, Issue 1), featuring an interview with Brackens that includes black and white and color photography of the artist’s figurative and abstract weavings. Available for purchase individually or as a set with two accompanying postcards (one signed by the artist) and the catalog.

Now is the perfect time to order these bundles from the Shop@SMoCA online to pick up in-store, and be sure to reserve your tickets for ark of bulrushes before it is too late.
