SMoCA’s Openings happen three times per year in fall, spring, and summer. These events are free and open to the general public.
SMoCA typically features 2–4 exhibitions each season that change roughly every three months during fall, spring and winter. Check the current exhibitions. SMoCA also houses a permanent James Turrell Skyspace in its outdoor courtyard that can be accessed during museum hours.
Most of the exhibitions at SMoCA are both appropriate and recommended for children and families; however, occasionally we do show artworks with adult content. When this is the case, we inform visitors with signage in the Museum lobby and galleries. Interested in a family friendly tour? Contact us.
A wheelchair is available for Museum visitors to borrow. Wall texts in large print are available at our front retail desk.
SMoCA is closed on major holidays and Mondays.
SMoCA is open until 8:00 p.m. on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The Museum is free on Thursdays.
Although SMoCA does not have a café, take advantage of the many restaurants and bars directly surrounding the Museum’s art campus.
Food and drink are not allowed in the exhibition spaces where there is artwork present, but for some programs that take place in the SMoCA Lounge, food and drink are permitted.
