In October of 2019, SMoCA opened a groundbreaking exhibition that marked a new for the Museum. Counter-Landscapes: Performative Actions from the 1970s – Now was an exhibition with an array of artists and their works that formed the performative arts movement. Over the span of the last 50 years, this group of artists worked in both natural and urban environments whose work exploits the power of place to address issues of social, environmental, and personal transformation. Including amazing artists VALIE EXPORT, Pope. L, Antonia Wright, Ana Teresa Fernández, Maria Hupfield, and Saskia Jordá, to name a few. This exhibition was stellar.
We are pleased to announce we are now offering a way to reflect and explore the exhibition further with our Counter-Landscapes catalog.
This limited print, 172-page catalog is a detailed record of the groundbreaking exhibition. From glossy and matte images of amazing works in the exhibition to gallery images to in-depth biographies of the artists and artist interviews, this catalog is not one to skip on.
